Abstract

1. 1. The spontaneous locomotor activity of turtles was recorded under conditions of normal daily light fluctuation and conditions of constant low illumination and relatively constant temperature. The activity of animals maintained in Faraday cages was compared with controls. 2. 2. Animals exposed to normal day-night conditions demonstrated above average activity from 0500 to 1000 hr. 3. 3. Both caged and control animals exhibited a persistent solar rhythm under constant conditions. This is some indication of a persistent lunar day rhythm. 4. 4. It is suggested that electrostatic field variation affects the lunar day cycle but not the solar day cycle.
