Abstract

A 58-year-old man with hemochromatosis experienced decreasing vision in his right eye and was referred for cataract surgery. His best-corrected visual acuity at presentation (Snellen) was 20/400 in the right eye and 20/20 in the left eye. He had hypermetropia and astigmatism, and a known amblyopia in his right eye since childhood. The eye examination showed iris strands extending centrally, with a spider-like appearance. This was consistent with persistent pupillary membranes in both eyes (A and B) –most pronounced in the right eye (A), which also had a pronounced cataract.
