Abstract

Summary In three cell strains, one human, one mouse and one Chinese hamster, persistent nucleoli were induced in prometaphase and metaphase by inhibition of DNA synthesis with fluorodeoxyuridine followed by thymidine relief. From the human cells, the persistent nucleoli were seen to attach to the acrocentric chromosomes, the chromosomes that bear nucleolus organizers.
