Abstract

Application of ultra-low-volume (ULV) sprays of malathion and methyl parathion to cotton plants yielded more persistent residues than when the compounds were applied as emulsifiable concentrates. Half-life values for ULV malathion on plants held at 29.4°C and 40.6°C were 21 and 15 hours, respectively. With emulsifiable concentrate (EC) malathion, the half-life values were approximately ½ those for ULV. Although comparable formulations of methyl parathion dissipated at least twice as fast as malathion, the persistence of EC malathion was equaled when methyl parathion was applied as ULV.
