Abstract

Fabrication of (0 0 1) oriented granular FePt–Ag (4.2 nm) films on MgO (0 0 1) substrates was achieved by means of repeated 6 times deposition and annealing of FePt(0.5 nm)/Ag(0.2 nm) bilayers. The annealing temperature for obtaining a perpendicular magnetized film was about 200 °C, which is considerably lower than that of films without Ag layers and films made without the repeated deposition and annealing process. The film annealed at 300 °C exhibits a large perpendicular anisotropy of 1.2×10 7 erg/cm 3
