Abstract
A study has been made of changes in peroxidase activity in barley endosperm in germinating grain and in endosperm slices incubated in gibberellic acid. In the starchy endosperm in both cases a rapid increase in activity of this enzyme was observed correlating closely with increased α-amylase activity. In the aleurone, a transient increase followed by a fall in activity occurred. This pattern, though similar in both systems, did not show a similar correlation with events in the starchy endosperm. The kinetics of the peroxidase reaction agreed with those of horse-radish peroxidase.
