Abstract
This classic among atlases of anatomy is derived from Eduard Pernkopf's (1888-1955) seven-volume textbook, Topographische Anatomie des Menschen . The majority of the illustrations in this atlas are truly works of art, demonstrating by their clarity and precision the best in collaboration between master medical artists and skillful anatomic prosectors. It is therefore appropriate that the editor of this new volume is Werner Platzer, MD, since he prepared most of the head and neck specimens for Pernkopf's original illustrations. As with the first two editions, the reproduction of illustrations is of the highest quality. This is true not only for the many new illustrations but also for the original plates of more than 40 years ago. The additions are substantial: 416 illustrations as compared with 339 in the second edition.
