All of the published studies (1-3) except one (4) were completed by 1947, and in none was the diagnosis based on Schilling tests, vitamin B12 assay, or measurement of gastric intrinsic factor. Hence the diagnostic data may be unreliable.To ascertain the prevalence of pernicious anemia at the District of Columbia General Hospital, we examined data from the special hematology laboratory and the medical records department.
