Abstract
An experimental investigation was made of an optically pumped ultraviolet I2 laser and the permissible heating of a laser medium containing I2 was analyzed. It was found that prolonged (1–2 msec) lasing of I2 was possible and that the specific output energy was 100 J/g when the active medium had the composition CF4:I2 and its density was 3 amagat.
