Abstract

Hazards from exposure to radiation are discussed. Sources of natural radiation are described. Early records of damage to man by ionizing radiation are summarized. The establishment of national and international standards for maximum permissible exposure (MPE) to radiation is reviewed. Considerations in the selection of MPE values are outlined, and units are defined. (M.C.G.)
