Abstract

A review of described species and illustrated reports of Permian chonetidine brachiopods and an analysis of generic and species distribution permits the identification of five faunal provinces within the Gondwanan Realm: Andean, Paratinan, Austrazean, Westralian and Cimmerian. Consideration of species diversity in addition to generic distribution appears essential to define faunal provinces.
