Abstract

The effect of poisons added to 0·1 N H 2SO 4 on the permeation of hydrogen through a steel diaphragm has been studied by measuring the permeation current P. The effect of poisons in increasing P decreases in the sequence As> Se> Te> S> Pb> Bi. The mechanism of poison action is reviewed and discussed on the basis of hydrogen coverage and the Kinetics of hydrogen evolution on iron in acid solutions.
