Abstract

The article presents complete permanent magnet management solution for a PMSM drive. The temperature of permanent magnets is obtained with a modified flux observer. With this available data, more precise torque estimation is possible. Furthermore the temperature information along with machine currents is fed to full demagnetisation model of permanent magnets in order to obtain their state. This information is then used to limit the applied reverse field in order to prevent the demagnetisation. The algorithm has been tested with simulations as well experimentally and the results show successful prevention of demagnetisation.
