Abstract

Retropharyngeal, Peritonsillar, parapharyngeal, submandibular abscesses are the most common deep cervical space infections in children.. Most develop secondary to an oropharyngeal or dental infection. Fever, neck pain and swelling were the most frequent symptoms. These infections are often polymicrobial or mixed. The CT scan is used to confirm the presence of deep neck abscesses. Incision and drainage with antibiotherapy are the cornerstones of management. Needle aspiration or drainage of these abscesses may provide an alternative to open procedures. In selected cases medical therapy alone can resolve some deep neck abscesses.
