Abstract
SUMMARY 1 A case of tuberculous peritonitis from rupture of a calcified tuberculous kidney is recorded. Recovery followed drainage and later nephrectomy, and appears to be the first recorded recovery from this complication. 2 The literature of non-traumatic ruptures and perforations of the kidney is briefly reviewed, with special reference to “renal peritonitis.” 3 Renal peritonitis, especially of tuberculous origin, is rare. Early diagnosis and surgical drainage are important, but the prognosis has now been greatly improved by modern antibiotics. Nephrectomy is better postponed.
