Abstract
Background: Proper staging of the peritoneum is essential for the guidance of patients with gastric cancer, in order to avoid non-therapeutic surgical resection. Despite advances in preoperative imaging methods there is a suboptimal identification of advanced gastric cancer, particularly with regard to the presence of peritoneal carcinomatosis.
