Abstract

The development of peritoneal dialysis in its two main forms, intermittent peritoneal dialysis (IPD) and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) is described. The application, results, complications and the choice of patients are compared for IPD and CAPD, and future developments in this field discussed.
