Abstract

Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis is important in treating end-stage renal disease but may be complicated by aseptic and bacterial peritonitis and, recently described, progressive calcifying peritonitis [1]. To our knowledge, this entity has not been well described in the radiology literature. Radiologists should be aware of this abnormality so they can identify it by noting calcification of the peritoneum and surrounding the small intestine. We report a patient maintained on long-term peritoneal dialysis before renal transplantation who developed extensive peritoneal, small intestine, and mesenteric calcification associated with peritonitis and metastatic calcification.
