Abstract

Paper deals with results of study of periphyton, formed in the secondary settling tanks of the municipal waste water treatment plant (Minsk, Belarus.) It was shown that by structural organization it is similar to periphyton of the natural waters. At the same time it was characterized by exceeding of destruction over production and high content of heavy metals and nutritive elements (nitrogen and phosphorus). Use of periphyton for the after-purification of the sewage water after biological treatment in aerotanks can significantly decrease content of the pollutants, first of all heavy metals and nutritive elements (nitrogen and phosphorus).
