Abstract

Position-related peripheral nerve injuries may result in significant patient morbidity as well as increased medicolegal liability for anesthetists and surgeons. While several demographic, anatomic, and metabolic risk factors have been associated with increased risk of occurrence, the role of specific positioning practices for maxillofacial procedures remains incompletely understood. Moreover, the true incidence of perioperative upper extremity peripheral neuropathy (PUN) for such surgeries is similarly unclear and may be under-reported.
