Abstract
The term perioperative is defined as the period of time and those areas of a patient care facility in which the patient preparation for, performance of, and recovery from surgical procedures occur [1]. It is evident that an efficient perioperative clinical information system becomes mandatory. An efficient perioperative clinical information system is now recognised as an indispensable clinical, financial and administrative management tool for the surgical services department. Surgical processes should be analysed beyond the narrow focus of the intraoperative anaesthesia. It is therefore necessary to address the information collection, documentation and management requirements of the entire perioperative period. Important modules of the perioperative process are the following: Surgery scheduling and support Tracking support Preoperative support Intraoperative support Postoperative support Pain management support Clinical support Administrative support Financial support
