Abstract

The Society for Vascular Surgery practice guidelines currently recommend carotid revascularization for asymptomatic disease in patients with at least a 3-year life expectancy and stenosis >60% when perioperative stroke and death rate is <3%. It was previously suggested that dialysis-dependent patients did not meet perioperative stroke and death thresholds, nor long-term survival benchmarks to justify repair in asymptomatic patients. The goal of this study was to determine how dialysis-dependent patients have performed perioperatively relative to nondialysis patients in a contemporary, national cohort following carotid revascularization.
