Abstract

SUMMARY The increasing prevalence of chronic pain an agingpopulation is likely to increasing situations of chronic painpatients requiring peri-operative care, which requiresmeticulous, compassionate and disciplined peri-operativecare for the anxious patient with potentially unrealisticexpectation. The peri-operative period is not the time toaddress the poly-pharmacy and psychosocial factors thatare fuelling the chronic pain state. The exponential increasein chronic opioid use will bring on additional challengesover the coming years. REFERENCES 1. Carr DB, et al. How prevalent is chronic pain. Pain clinicalupdates.
