Abstract
In this paper we characterize the exceptional theta lifting fromG 2 toC 3 by means of the existence of the simple pole ats=1 of the spin L-function forGSp 3 and by means of the nonvanishing of certain period onGSp 3. Among other results, we also prove the lifting fromG 2 toC 3 is functorial at local unramified places.
