Abstract

Periodontal disease is a chronic infectiousdisease of the tissues surrounding the teeth that resultin tooth loss. It affects up to 50% of the adult populationworldwide. Serious periodontitis has beenreported as the sixth most common infection aroundthe world. Periodontal disease has been associatedwith liver disease. Moreover, dental infections mayimpact the clinical course of liver disease. Furthermore,untreated dental problems can lead to infectionsand sepsis and may cause many complicationsin liver transplanted patients. The results of studiesdocumented high levels of dental management amongpatientswith chronic liver diseases. Therefore, periodontitisin patients with chronic liver disease needto be detected early and treated under collaborativeof hepatologist and dentist in order to preventprogression of chronic liver disease
