Abstract
Orientation preserving maps of the circle and homeomorphisms of the annulus and 2-torus which have (point) rotation sets with non-empty interior must have periodic orbits. This work contains the construction of a Cinfinity map of the 2-torus and a Cinfinity diffeomorphism of the n-torus (n>or=3) which have rotation sets with interior but no periodic orbits.
