Abstract

Repetitive, three-month separations and reunions are experienced by a group of United States Navy submariners and their wives. This study of the wives' contacts with medical facilities and personnel suggests that physical illnesses and complaints are related to the husbands' work cycle and are significantly more frequent during periods of separation.
