Abstract
Following a review of literature on the functions of newspapers, this article examines the problems involved in their production and publication, their quality requirements and the characteristics of electronic newspapers. An analysis of Brazilian library science journals in terms of editorial responsibility, frequency, place of publication, sources of indexation, ISSN and their accessibility in printing and electronic sources, is also made.
