Abstract

Periaqueductal gray (PAG) plays an important role in the modulation of descending pain control. Previous MRI studies showed that increased PAG iron levels in both episodic and chronic migraine patients correlated with disease duration. Transcranial sonography (TCS) is an imaging technique that allows visualization of heavy metals in the brain parenchyma as an area of hyperecogenicity. The PAG is the gray matter located around the cerebral aqueduct and usually ecographic signal of this region is indistinguishable from the adjacent parenchyma.
