Abstract

The periapical response to apical plugs of dentin chips and calcium hydroxide powder have been compared. Canine teeth on opposing sides of 10 ferrets were treated by each technique. New hard tissue formation was labeled with Procion red dye. Periapical tissues were examined histologically after 3 months. Although hard tissue deposition varied widely and persisting chronic inflammation was present around 15% of the apices, no consistent differences in the responses were observed.
