Abstract

Moshe Sharett served as an officer in the Ottoman army from 1916 to 1918. His large corpus of letters to his family from his various encampments during his service illustrate not only his own experience but that of many of his Jewish contemporaries from Palestine, and give some insight into the situation in the Yishuv at that time. He also gives invaluable information about life in the army and its activities in Palestine, Syria, Jordan, and Macedonia.
