Abstract
This chapter follows a transformational journey from the personal loss of miscarriage to a creative response of land art and ritual performance, as a means of exploring grief, commemorating life and healing loss. Parry-Jones’ artistic practice of paper art, clown and shamanism is investigated in relation to the interconnectedness of human experience and environment, ancestral rites, myth and story. Research into ancient rites and modern practice is conducted in Wales, Scandinavia, Siberia and Japan, where a creative response to the national loss of human life and fertility of land in Fukushima was made through performance and film. The chapter culminates with the continuation of a cycle of loss and creative gestation period.
