Abstract

A thermal analysis of a double effect multiwick solar still has been presented by incorporating design and climatic parameters. Analytical expressions for the temperatures of water and glass and thermal efficiency have also been derived. Numerical computations have been carried out for the proposed system for the given climatic parameters of Delhi, and the following conclusions were drawn: (i) double effect distillation is more efficient at the low flow velocity required in the wick solar still and, (ii) overall thermal efficiency decreases with an increase of mass flow rate.
