Abstract

Abstract We consider a performance model for a token ring network consisting of two kinds of stations: single buffer stations and a station with finite capacity. We first present a detailed analysis for such a model. Next we give a simplified analysis of the same model because the detailed analysis needs excessive computational time and space. We apply our method to an interconnected token ring network model, each of which consists of single buffer terminals and a finite capacity bridge. System performance measures (mean message waiting time, throughput and loss probability at the bridge) computed from our analysis are compared to the simulation results. For almost all tried cases our approximate analysis is shown to be within 95% confidence intervals in the mean message waiting time and within a few percent error in the throughput and loss probability.
