Abstract

This paper presents a performance study of space-time receiver structures based on Parallel Interference Cancellation (PIC) and Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) methods for an up-link multiuser Direct Sequence CDMA (DS-CMDA) channel. Computer simulations show that the canceller significantly reduces the interference from a detected strong user which then mitigates the level of Multiple Access Interference (MAI) at the input to the following stage. The results have also shown improved performance for SIC over PIC, however, this is at the expense of extra pre-processing to rank users prior to cancellation. The robust performance of SIC is maintained even when strong and weak users are positioned in the same direction with reference to the base station.
