Abstract

In this work, anode-supported protonic ceramic fuel cell (PCFC) with thin yttrium doped barium zirconate (BZY) is fabricated using pulsed laser deposition (PLD). For highly dense and thin electrolyte film growth, anode functional layer and anode interlayer are deposited on porous anode support by electrostatic slurry spray deposition and PLD, respectively. As a result, high open circuit voltage of 0.98 V is obtained after anode reduction at 600 oC, indicating that the fabricated BZY electrolyte effectively blocks gas permeation. Electrochemical performance of the PCFC is obtained with peak power densities of 55‒171 mW/cm2 at an operating temperature regime of 450‒600 oC.
