Abstract

This chapter demonstrates fabrication methods and field-emission properties of point-typed carbon nanotube (CNT) field emitters. The point-typed CNT field emitters indicate high performance, such as a low turn-on voltage, good emission stability, and a small electron beam spot compared to conventional CNT field emitters. CNTs have attracted much interest for a cold cathode field emitter due to their unique properties such as excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, high mechanical strength, good chemical stability, and a high aspect ratio. The point-typed CNT field emitter was fabricated by attaching a single-walled CNT bundle or a double-walled CNT, which was produced by DC arc discharge, onto the tip of an atomic force microscope probe by using an electrophoresis method.
