Abstract
In this study, conjugate beamforming lattice-reduction (LR)-aided precoding is proposed for block diagonal multiuser multiple-input–multiple-output (MU-MIMO) system. Block diagonalisation (BD), a common precoding for downlink MU-MIMO is used to eliminate some of the inter-user interference. In this study, we investigate the performance of conjugate beamforming when partial BD is performed such that a set of users communicates with the base station (BS) without interference from the other sets. We show that the sum-rate significantly increases by a simplified LR-aided conjugate beamforming and least-correlated user-pairing algorithm. We analytically obtain an upper bound for the achieved rate. We compare between the optimal and the proposed suboptimal user pairing for both cases of perfect and imperfect channel state information at the BS as well as the case of spatially correlated channel.
