Abstract

In this paper, phased array transducer is used in multipath ultrasonic flow meters to measure the velocities in discrete lines from a fixed position without requiring mechanical movement. Gaussian quadrature integration formulas are applied to evaluate the measurement performance of multipath ultrasonic phased array flowmeter downstream single bend based on different velocity profile models. The flow field downstream single bend is modeled using CFD simulation. Multipath ultrasonic phased array flowmeter is examined at different distances from the elbow. The results reveal that at 20D downstream elbow, the standard deviation of relative errors using Gaussian quadrature based on single bend model is about 1% but based on symmetric models is about 3.5%. Far from the elbow, the standard deviation of relative errors based on symmetric models are about 0.5%, and based on the single bend model is about 3.5%.
