Abstract

This study uses a new resin cement as a sealer material for manhole frames. This material is used for rapid manhole vertical adjustment (RMVA) techniques to complete a ‘Smooth Roads Project’. Precast screws within the newly installed manhole frame are used to adjust the elevation of the cover to match the road elevation and ensure a smooth transition from the road surface to cover. Using this technique, rapid vertical adjustment and replacement of the manhole is achieved. To evaluate the performance of the new resin cement used in RMVA techniques, a 3-meter straightedge was used to measure the smoothness between the manhole cover and the surrounding road surface. The smoothness tests have been carried out for 3·5 years to ensure a smooth ride after opening to traffic. Test results show that the measured values all fit in with the acceptance standard ±6 mm.
