Abstract

ABSTRACT The performance characteristics of reluctance motors employing rotors with different shapes are presented. Six rotors were used, five of them were of the conventional salient pole type, some of which were fitted with deep bar starting cage, while the sixth was of the segmental type. The effect of motor parameters on machine performance was determined experimentally. The analysis presented showed good correlation with the test results. A comparison between the different performance characteristics of the motors leads to useful conclusions enabling designers to choose between the different types to fulfil different drive requirements.
