Abstract

Three apple tree canopy position variables, height, canopy radius, and compass direction, were tested separately for 3 types of apple maggot traps, a yellow Sectar®, a prebaited yellow card, and a sticky red sphere. The sphere and the sectar traps were most effective when hung near the top of the tree 3.0 m above ground, but the yellow card was more effective when hung near the middle of the tree 2.1 m above ground. All 3 traps were most effective when hung near the middle of the canopy radius, and all caught more Rhagoletis pomonella (Walsh) when hung on the south side of the tree.
