Abstract

Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) is well known as eggplant or aubergine belongs to the family Solanaceae and is one of the major indigenous vegetable crops grown in India. The name eggplant is derived from the shape of the fruit of mostof the varieties, which are white in colour and similar to the shape of chicken eggs. Eggplant is a perennial, warm weather crop however grown commercially as an annual crop.
