Abstract

A matched-filter (MF) parallel acquisition scheme is proposed for a direct-sequence (DS) spread-spectrum (SS) packet radio communication. The parallel acquisition scheme consists of a bank of N parallel 1-Q noncoherent MF's. Autocorrelation sidelobes are considered for preamble detection. Packet loss probabilities for the acquisition scheme are derived for an AWGN and a fast Rayleigh fading channels. It is shown that autocorrelation sidelobes of PN codes degrade the performance of the acquisition scheme. Also it is shown that the parallel acquisition scheme achieves smaller packet loss probability than the serial acquisition scheme for both an AWGN and a fast Rayleigh fading channels. >
