Abstract

Using voice service on a mobile phone over long term evolution (LTE) mobile network has changed the way to service voice call in the legacy networks. Due to the LTE mobile network structure is accommodated specific for data and no circuit switch for voice call services. Therefore, the usage of voice services is necessary and needed to find out how to support voice services on LTE network. This paper presents the performance indicators on voice call services in mobile network technologies, LTE and UMTS. The topic of experiments has been divided as the following, the voice call service on LTE network via voice over LTE (VoLTE) and via circuit switched fallback (CSFB). Moreover, the voice call services qualities in UMTS network is also measured for comparing the call setup time of the mobile phone to connect with another mobile phone (M2M) in real mobile networks. In addition, the performance analysis and comparisons between signal strength and call setup time during the call of each technology are provided. The experimental results showed that using voice call services by VoLTE have shorter call setup time than ones by CSFB and UMTS. Furthermore, the signal strength when start the call has effect on the call setup time as the weak signal strength caused the longer call setup time.
