Abstract

The heart of renewable energy is a solar photovoltaic (PV) system. The major drawbacks of this system are low value of conversion efficiency and changing output voltage due to change in solar power. These disadvantages are overcome by use of DC-DC converter. DC-DC converter is regulated using linear (PI, PID) or nonlinear controllers (Fuzzy Logic). The proposed work simulates both linear and nonlinear controllers on Buck-Boost converter using MATLAB Simulink and results are compared. Generally linear controllers are usually designed for DC-DC converter. However, linear controllers are computationally expensive with more memory requirement. In many applications linear controllers are replaced by Fuzzy Logic controller because the fuzzy system does not require accurate mathematical model as it depends on membership function and interference of fuzzy rules. Both, PID and Fuzzy Logic controllers, have been analyzed and validated by simulation results. The performance of both controllers has been compared based on its settling time, deviation of output voltage.
