Abstract
Selection of power converter topology and, its associated control effects the switching and conduction losses, filter size and, thus affects the overall cost and performance of the inverter. Thus, in this paper, various topologies of conventional inverter such as two-level PWM inverter, classical multilevel inverter (MLI) such as CHB and, novel reduced switch count (RSC) MLI such as T-type and MLDCL are considered, and their corresponding performance with various conventional and novel PWM schemes is also analyzed. The performance of each of these topological configurations with its corresponding PWM in developing 18kVA, 600V, 50Hz three-phase inverter is analyzed in MATLAB environment. To identify the efficient topological configuration in terms of power losses, a simple and reliable method for computing conduction and switching loss is considered.
