Abstract

In this paper, DFT-Spread and ISFA enabled FFT/IFFT size efficient orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is experimentally demonstrated in an intensity-modulation and direct-detection (IMDD) hybrid fiber-visible laser light communication (Fiber-VLLC) system. The experimental results show that, after 20-km standard single mode fiber (SSMF) and 5-m wireless transmission, the bit error rates (BERs) of 3.17 Gbps (4.75 Gbps) 16-QAM (64-QAM) DFT-Spread FFT/IFFT size efficient OFDM signals with less than 1e-5 (1e-2) can be achieved. In addition, the FFT/IFFT size efficient DFT-Spread OFDM with lower power consumption can obtain a similar performance compared to conventional DFT-Spread IMDD OFDM.
