Abstract

Improving the performance of the transmission control protocol (TCP) in wireless environment has been an active research area. In wireless environment, TCP erroneously responds to all losses by invoking congestion control algorithm resulting in degraded end-to-end performance. In this paper, we proposes a new modification of TCP_Reno based on monitoring the wireless packet loss rate in real time. When the modified Reno cooperates with the router configured with explicit congestion notification(ECN), it is capable of distinguishing the wireless packet losses from the congestion packet losses, and reacting accordingly. At the same time, the sender takes advantage of the monitor result to adjustment the TCP segment size. The simulations in this paper show that the modification of TCP is feasible, and the performance of TCP is improved actually.
