Abstract

This paper proposes an improved method for the control of switched reluctance motor drive (SRMD), with an application in light electric vehicles (LEV). A low voltage, three phase, switched reluctance motor (SRM) is used in LEV. The flux and torque characteristics are estimated using DC excitation technique. For the control of LEV using SRM, a fuzzy logic control (FLC) method is analyzed using MATLAB/Simulink® based simulation. The control of SRM using the FLC algorithm, takes less settling time for tracking the reference speed of the SRMD. Thus, the starting performance of the SRMD is improved with the use of FLC as compared with the traditional PI controller. Simulation results demonstrate the feasibility of the system using FLC algorithm for LEV.
